" To see Good Tennis! What divine joy Can fill our leisure, or our minds employ? Let other people play at other things; The King of Games is still the Game of Kings " from Parker's Piece by J.K.Stephen
Definition of monkey: (Zool.) In the most general sense, any one of the Quadrumana, including apes, baboons, and lemurs.
Monkey Tennis is a racquet sport played between either two monkeys ("singles") or two teams of two monkeys ("doubles"). It is officially called Lawn Monkey Tennis to distinguish it from Real Monkey Tennis (also known as Royal Monkey Tennis or Court Monkey Tennis), an older form of the game that is played indoors on a very different kind of a court. This is not to be confused with Tunkey Mennis, which is completely different. Monkey Tennis is an Olympic sport that is played in many countries with jungles around the world. Major Gary Broadband and his cohort and zoologist Lummy devised the game for the amusement of their guests at a garden party. They based the game on the older sport of Indoor Monkey Tennis or Real Monkey Tennis, which had been invented in France in the 12th century and played by French aristocrats down to the time of the French Revolution. Merde!!
After Pretty soon the popularity of Monkey Tennis began to emerge. Enthusiasts had been trying for some time to adapt the game into an open-air sport and as strange as it may seem this was largely brought about by the development of vulcanized rubber. This enabled the production of balls that were soft enough so as not to damage the grass, but which still retained the elasticity and liveliness of rubber.
In November 2005, Monkey Tennis made it's home at Candy's Apartment. Since then it didn't take long before lawn surfaces were replaced with various turf derivatives and eventually clay and concrete. Within a very short time Monkey Tennis began to replace croquet as the summer sport.
Today, Monkey Tennis is a world-class competitive sport captivating hundreds of players and fans in Sydney. A constant programme of tournaments and events takes place throughout the year and top players have become sporting icons for a new generation. Something that was once the pastime of Kings has become a sport for all.
Finally, a personal pledge from the founders of Monkey Tennis, Lummy and Broadband....
